The Israeli daily newspaper Yedioth Ahronoth reported that a large number of Israeli infantry soldiers with the 1st Golani Brigade have been killed in fierce clashes in the al-Shujaiya neighborhood of Gaza City.
The newspaper quoted a Zionist officer as saying that the Israeli army has given 7 to 10 days to defeat the Hamas battalion in al-Shujaiya, a task that may require six months.
Citing Israeli sources, the report also suggested that overcoming the Hamas battalion in that neighborhood with aerial bombardment also seems impossible.
Amos Harel, a leading Israeli military expert, told the Haaretz newspaper that the Israeli army is having a very difficult time achieving its goals in Gaza as set out by political leaders.
Despite the extensive damage and casualties in the Israeli army, there is no sign of an imminent defeat of Hamas, he added.
